Empowering independence through occupational therapy
Bridget has over 10 years of experience working within the health and social care sector and holds a First-Class degree in Occupational Therapy. She has supported children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD and learning disabilities across specialist schools and colleges, helping them to develop independence, build confidence and engage in activities that are meaningful to them.
Her approach is person-centred and strengths-based, focusing on each individual’s unique abilities, interests and goals.
Bridget’s Occupational Therapy journey began with a six-week voluntary placement in Nepal, where she supported a school for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). During this time, she completed initial functional assessments for pupils to help identify their strengths and support needs, while working collaboratively with staff to develop practical, low-resource intervention strategies tailored to the local environment.
This experience strengthened her resilience, adaptability and clinical reasoning, demonstrating the importance of delivering meaningful Occupational Therapy regardless of the resources available. Alongside her clinical work, Bridget also supported the refurbishment of the school by fundraising and donating the proceeds from her birthday, helping to improve the learning environment for the children and staff.
Through her work in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) settings, Bridget has gained extensive experience contributing to the Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) process. She produces clear, evidence-based Occupational Therapy reports to support EHCP assessments, Annual Reviews and person-centred reviews, ensuring that recommendations are practical, meaningful and tailored to the individual’s needs, aspirations and everyday life.
Alongside her professional experience, Bridget brings valuable lived experience as a parent of autistic children. This gives her a genuine understanding of the joys, challenges and complexities that can be part of everyday life for autistic individuals and their families. Combining professional expertise with personal insight, Bridget is able to build trusting relationships and work collaboratively with individuals, families and support teams to identify strengths, overcome barriers and create opportunities for greater participation, independence and wellbeing.
